<!-- skill: Premiere Pro | version: 1.0.0 | description: Bins, JKL editing, Lumetri color, sound, captions and export presets | category: Video & Design -->
## Instructions
- Organize with bins before a single cut: 01_Ingest / 02_Selects / 03_Sequences / 04_Audio / 05_Graphics / 06_Exports, label selects green / stringouts blue / masters yellow, proxy badge visible on every timeline clip.
- Ingest with proxies for smooth edits: ProRes Proxy or H.264 720p match-source, attach on ingest via Media Browser preset, toggle with proxy button (+ key), relink full-res only at export.
- Edit at speed with JKL + pancake timeline: J/L shuttle, K pause, J+K slow-mo, pancake source-selects above master timeline, Q/W ripple trim, C razor only as fallback, nest per act.
- Cut for retention: cold open first, kill sub-0.5s dead air with ripple delete, J-cut/L-cut every interview answer (audio leads 4-8 frames), adjustment-layer punch-ins instead of baked zooms.
- Run the Lumetri color chain in order: Basic Correction (WB + exposure via scopes) > Creative LUT at 40-70% intensity > Curves contrast > HSL Secondary for skin/problem colors > Vignette last, Lumetri scopes open on vectorscope/waveform.
- Mix with Essential Sound properly: tag clips Dialogue/Music/SFX/Ambience, Dialogue preset + auto-match loudness to -14 LUFS for YouTube (-16 podcast), duck music -6 to -9 dB under dialogue, de-noise before EQ.
- Title and caption correctly: Essential Graphics for lower-thirds (responsive safe margins), auto-transcribe > correct > style to broadcast-safe fonts, export SRT sidecar plus burned-in version for Shorts.
- Stabilize and fix before effects: Warp Stabilizer on nested clip (not master), morph-cut only on locked-off interviews, denoise with Neat/built-in before sharpen, never stack two auto-color tools.
- Use Media Encoder presets deliberately: YouTube 4K master (H.264 VBR 2-pass 40-60 Mbps), 1080p review (10-16 Mbps), ProRes 422 mezzanine archive, vertical 1080x1920 CBR 12-16 Mbps for Shorts.
- Finish with a QC pass: scopes legal (luma under 100 IRE), audio peaks under -1 dBTP, caption spelling, end screen 20s clear of lower-thirds, export filename `PROJECT_v03_2026-10-13_4K.mp4`.
- Autosave defensively: auto-save every 10 min to separate SSD, version-up sequence daily (v01/v02), project archive with trimmed handles (Project Manager collect files).
- Collaborate cleanly: Productions folder per editor, shared mogrt library, fonts packaged, no absolute-path media — all relative in project folder.
## Examples
- Good: proxies attached, pancake selects, Lumetri in order, dialogue at -14 LUFS, captions proofed. Bad: 4K H.265 on timeline, no proxies, auto-color + LUT stacked, audio peaking.
- Good J-cut: guest answer audio starts 6 frames before face appears. Bad: straight hard cut mid-breath every line.
- Good export: 4K VBR 2-pass 50 Mbps master + 1080p review + SRT. Bad: single CBR 5 Mbps upload full of banding.
## Workflows
1. Ingest: copy cards with checksums, bins + labels, proxy preset attach, stringout selects sequence.
2. Rough: pancake selects to master, JKL pass, ripple-delete dead air, act nests.
3. Finish: Lumetri chain, Essential Sound mix + loudness, graphics + captions, QC scopes.
4. Export: Media Encoder queue (master + review + vertical), upload + archive via Project Manager.
## Templates
- Premiere export preset list:
- `4K Master: H.264, 3840x2160, VBR 2-pass 45-60 Mbps, AAC 320kbps, -14 LUFS`
- `1080p Review: H.264, 1920x1080, VBR 1-pass 12 Mbps, fast upload draft`
- `Mezzanine: ProRes 422, WAV 48kHz 24-bit, archive + re-edit safe`
- `Vertical Short: H.264, 1080x1920, CBR 14 Mbps, burned-in captions`
- `Audio-only: WAV 48kHz 24-bit + MP3 320kbps dual export`
- Caption style block: `Font: Inter Bold 64px | Stroke 6px black | Max 32 chars/line | Min duration 1.0s`
- Bin/file naming: `PROJ_S01E04_v03_4K_MASTER.mp4`
## Tools
- Premiere Pro + Media Encoder queue, Lumetri Scopes panel, Essential Sound + Graphics panels.
- ffmpeg for loudness checks and remuxes, SARAH file tools for edit checklists and version logs.
## Advanced
- Build custom ingest preset: proxy + LUT + audio-channel map + bin structure in one Media Browser click.
- Master adjustment-layer stacks: one layer for color, one for punch zooms, one for letterbox/grain so client revisions never touch base cuts.
- Use scene-edit detection on flat exports to rebuild timelines from stock or client renders.
- Pancake power routine: K/J/L at 2x through selects, I/O mark keepers, comma/period insert to master — assemble 10-min rough in under an hour.
- Lumetri look library: save 5 signature Looks (.cube via Lumetri export), apply at 50% + skin-protect HSL so looks never nuke faces.
- Essential Sound ducking recipe: dialogue anchor, music duck -7 dB sensitivity 5, SFX duck -3 dB, auto-match loudness pass at the very end.
- Caption workflow upgrade: transcribe > proof at 1.25x > split lines over 42 chars > restyle > export SRT + burned-in vertical copy.
- Morph-cut safety: 8+ frame handles, locked tripod only, cut on head-turn midpoint; if warping, fall back to B-roll cover.
- Project Manager trim: collect with 60-frame handles, exclude previews, verify relink on a copy before deleting originals.
- Team Productions locks: one editor per sequence, read-only shared mogrts, daily version-up with initials (`S01E04_v05_JK`).
- Export-queue overnight: master + review + vertical + audio-only queued in Media Encoder, watch-folder auto-upload to Drive/Frame.io.
## Quick Reference
- Bins: 01_Ingest through 06_Exports; proxies (ProRes Proxy/720p) attached on ingest.
- Edit keys: J/L shuttle, K pause, Q/W ripple trim, pancake selects over master timeline.
- Lumetri order: WB/exposure > Creative LUT 40-70% > curves > HSL skin > vignette.
- Sound: tag Dialogue/Music/SFX, dialogue -14 LUFS YouTube, duck music -6 to -9 dB.
- Captions: auto-transcribe > proof > style > SRT sidecar + burned-in vertical copy.
- Exports: 4K VBR2 45-60 Mbps master, 1080p 12 Mbps review, ProRes archive, 9:16 CBR 14 Mbps.
- Autosave 10 min to separate SSD; version-up daily; Project Manager 60-frame handles.
